The Incoterms 2010 trade terms are used in international trade, and are a series of recognised standard definitions drawn up by The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). The trade terms describe the buyer's and seller's risks, liabilities and obligations in international trade.


Incoterms 2010 is split into four groups, each with its own initial letter.

Group E (origin/dispatch)

  • EXW Ex Works (place)

Group F (main carriage unpaid)

  • FCA Free Carrier (place)
  • FAS Free Alongside Ship (port of shipment)
  • FOB Free On Board (port of shipment)

Group C (main carriage paid)

  • CFR Cost and Freight (port of destination)
  • CIF Cost, Insurance and Freight (port of destination)
  • CPT Carriage Paid To (place of destination)
  • CIP Carriage and Insurance Paid to (place of destination)

Group D (destination/arrival)

  • DAF Delivered At Frontier (place)
  • DES Delivered Ex Ship (port of destination)
  • DEQ Delivered Ex Quay (port of destination)
  • DDU Delivered Duty Unpaid (place of destination); and
  • DDP Delivered Duty Paid (place of destination)


Use the correct delivery terms  
Overland transport EXW, FCA, CPT, CIP, DAF, DDU, DDP
Air transport EXW, FCA, CPT, CIP
Rail transport EXW, FCA, CPT, CIP
Sea and inland waterway transport EXW, FCA, FAS, FOB, CFR, CIF, CPT, CIP, DES, DEQ
